Our Vineyards

Τhe secrets of volcanic soil

The vineyard is the heartbeat of Artemis Karamolegos Winery. Artemis’s vision is to produce the best quality grapes while respecting the traditional way of cultivation and improving viticulture with the least possible impact on the environment.

The Santorinian volcanic soil, known locally as “aspa,” is rich in minerals such as potassium, phosphorus, iron, and magnesium. These minerals are essential for the growth and development of grapevines. Τhe majority of our vines are over a 100 years old, and trained in ‘’kouloura’’, which is the traditional basket-shaped pruning system for protecting the grapes from the strong winds of the island. Employing this approach, we achieve low yields with high quality and more concentrated grapes.

With careful selection of grapes and vineyard separations, we fulfill Artemis’s vision to bring to light the different and unique expressions of the Assyrtiko variety.
